PSHE/RHSE

PSHE & RSE

At Stanley St Peter’s our main aim is to ‘Unlock Potential and Celebrate Success’ and we believe that PSHE (including RSE) underpins children’s ability to succeed in all areas of school life. It teaches children to know how to build caring friendships, create positive relationships, make safe and healthy decisions. The subject enables children to create and achieve their own ambitions. We want all children to know that – regardless of their background, ability or circumstances - to leave our school with a pleasure and enjoyment for education alongside lifelong skills that can help them be successful in further education and their chosen careers.

How will we achieve this?

  • PSHE and RSE is taught together, following the SCARF scheme of work.
  • Weekly PSHE lesson; length of lesson to be flexible and based on class needs.
  • Circle time, group or whole class discussions should also be used in response to the social and emotional needs of the class, ensuring this is supportive of the school behaviour policy.
  • Specialised themed collective worships
  • PSHE activities and whole school events e.g. children in need, anti-bullying, internet safety.
  • Pastoral care and guidance to be delivered as a class and to small groups who require this.
  • Children have access to age appropriate reading material and video links.
  • School to provide visits from outside agencies for all age groups e.g. Visiting speakers e.g. school nurse, road safety talk etc
  • Written work from lessons to be recorded in the back of RE books.
  • School to participate in charitable events and fundraisers.

In addition to the PSHE taught through the curriculum, we also have whole school events that help to develop the children and give them the opportunity to express and explore PSHE in different ways.  Some of the wonderful work and special days that the children have taken part in  include:

  • The Harvest Festival;
  • Remembrance Day;
  • Singing at church for the local community;
  • Young Voices Concert at Sheffield Arena;
  • Anti-bullying Week;
  • Internet Safety Day;
  • Child Mental Health Week;
  • Educational visits linked to topics;
  • Dog's Trust Workshop;
  • British Hen Welfare Trust Workshop;
  • Canal River Trust, Water Safety Workshop;
  • Fire Safety Talk from REAL fire fighters;
  • Children in Need;
  • Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day;
  • World Book Day;
  • British Red Cross First Aid Workshop;

We have many more opportunities planned for the future too!

We are immensely proud of our children and how they embrace the PSHE & RSHE curriculum in their everyday lives.  It is something that we will continue to work hard on, to ensure that our children are the best version of themselves that they can be!
