Music

Music at Stanley St Peter's

Our music curriculum aims to provide all pupils with a high quality music education which engages and inspires children to develop a life-long love of music, increases their self-confidence, creativity  and imagination, and provides opportunities for self-expression and a sense of personal achievement . Children participate in a wide range of activities to develop their talents in all aspects of music including rhythm work, instrumental skills, composition, singing and appreciation.  Whole class instrumental instruction (djembe drums or ukelele) is provided by a specialist music teacher from Wakefield Music Service to all our Year 4 children.  We also offer a djembe drum enrichment club and choir opportunities after school each week.

We believe that opportunities for children to play in small groups or ensemble also helps to foster essential life skills such as co-operation, mutual support, self-discipline and commitment.  We have a dedicated music room which provides a space for rehearsals and individual practice.

Music plays an important role in helping children to feel part of a community. We organise and collaborate in projects to enable children to share their musical skills at different events both inside and outside of school.  Our choir regularly performs for the church Tuesday lunch group, our school and the local nursing home.  They also participate in the annual Young Voices concert at Sheffield Arena.  Our instrumental players have the fantastic opportunity to perform at the annual 'Big Strum' and 'Big Drum' and 'Big Sing' concerts held at Wakefield Cathedral each year.

Our Vision for Music

We also make use of the services on offer from Wakefield Music Services (WMS) which is the lead organisation for the Wakefield Music Education Hub (WMEH) and has been providing quality inclusive music teaching and opportunities to the young people in Wakefield since 1974.  Our children have the opportunity to access private and small group tuition provided by WMS for a reasonable fee.  For more information regarding this, please speak to your child's class teacher.

We are officially an Ofsted rated GOOD school and a SIAMs rated EXCELLENT school! Both reports are available to read in full on our website.
