PSHE & RSHE

At Stanley St Peter's, our main aim is to 'Unlock Potential and Celebrate Success', and we believe that PSHE (including RSHE) underpins children's ability to succeed in all areas of school life. It teaches children how to build caring friendships, develop positive relationships, and make safe and healthy decisions. In addition, it promotes positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience, and achievement.

The subject enables children to develop aspirations and achieve their ambitions. We want all children to know that, regardless of their background, ability, or circumstances, they can leave our school with a love of learning and an enjoyment of education, alongside the lifelong skills needed to succeed in further education and their chosen careers.

How will we achieve this?

• PSHE and RSHE are taught together, following the SCARF scheme of work.
• Weekly PSHE lessons are delivered, with lessons remaining flexible and responsive to the needs of each class.
• myHappymind lessons are taught weekly to help children develop positive relationships and strengthen their emotional regulation skills.
• Circle time, group discussions, and whole-class discussions are used in response to the social and emotional needs of pupils, ensuring they complement the school's behaviour policy.
• Special themed collective worship sessions support key PSHE topics.
• PSHE activities and whole-school events, such as Children in Need and Anti-Bullying Week, help reinforce learning.
• Pastoral care and guidance are delivered both within classes and to small groups where additional support is required.
• Children have access to age-appropriate reading materials and video resources.
• The school provides visits and workshops from external agencies and visiting speakers, such as the school nurse and water safety professionals.
• Written work from lessons is recorded in PSHE books.
• The school participates in charitable events and fundraising activities.

In addition to the PSHE curriculum, we hold a range of whole-school events that help develop children's understanding of key topics and provide opportunities to explore and express their learning in different ways. Some of the wonderful experiences our children have taken part in include:
